Lawrence folks still swept up in the summer of soccer adrenaline can catch local theatre performer Jeanne Averill in the season premiere of “Ted Lasso” at a free community watch party.
“Ted Lasso” is an Emmy Award-winning comedy about an American football coach who goes to England to be a gaffer for a British football league with zero experience. The show explores mental health, team-building and human relationships through the stories of those on and surrounding the team.
Averill will be in the season four premiere of “Ted Lasso,” which drops on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Doors for the watch party will open at 7:30 p.m. before the 8 p.m. show that day at Maceli’s Catering & Events, 1031 New Hampshire St.
“For those who know Jeanne Averill, the role feels perfectly earned,” according to a news release. “Ted Lasso has always been about more than soccer. It’s about believing in people, building community, and helping others become their best selves. Those same values have defined Jeanne Averill’s career as an actress, director, teacher, and mentor for generations of artists throughout Lawrence and Kansas City.”
Folks can meet and take photos with Averill and participate in a crowd-judged “Ted Lasso” costume contest.
Attendees can also donate money at the door to support the Lawrence Arts Center’s Averill Scholarship Fund, which allows more kids to participate in the nonprofit’s Summer Youth Theatre program. Averill helped found the program more than four decades ago, according to the release.
Averill has appeared on stages in Lawrence, Kansas City and beyond, and has shone on screens in a broad range of films. See more of her acting credits at this link.
