Art Emergency’s second “Be the People” exhibition in Lawrence will feature work by more than 30 artists while encouraging attendees to contact their elected officials.
The show, curated by Shanna Wagner and Margie Carr, will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Art Emergency, 721 E. Ninth Street.
In addition to visual art, gallery-goers can expect games, live music from The PerSisters, and crafts. The event will also feature live poetry from writer and artist José Faus, who recently performed at the Lawrence Arts Center.
The show will encourage civic engagement, with voter and ballot information, plus opportunities for people to send messages to their representatives.
“The goal is simple: give artists a voice and give the community a place to come together — to learn, laugh, participate, be outraged, and have some fun along the way,” the event page reads.
