Four artists will come together in Lawrence for an evening of poetry and music to illuminate their experiences of immigration, belonging and the meaning of home.
The performance, called “Sharing Home,” is an installment in the Lawrence Art Center’s Downtown Underground concert series.
“Sharing Home offers an intimate, multidisciplinary exploration of the immigrant experience, addressing the complex emotional and cultural landscapes of living between origins and new places of belonging,” per a news release.
It will also highlight collaboration between artists with different artistic backgrounds and perspectives on being an immigrant. The evening will feature songwriter and producer Nick Carswell, cellist Ezgi Karakus, writer and artist José Faus and poet Huascar Medina.
“Home is not a place for me, it’s a people,” said Medina, former poet laureate of Kansas. “I live in-between places. Places where my parents left from, and places where I’m trying to belong.”
Doors for “Sharing Home” open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at the arts center, 940 New Hampshire St.
