Gary West, currently deputy public defender, has been selected as judge pro tem in Douglas County District Court.
West will fill the position previously held by Blake Glover, who was appointed as a district judge in August.
Chief Judge Mark Simpson announced West’s appointment, which will begin Monday, Oct. 5, in a news release Thursday morning.
West holds more than 30 years of legal experience, including as a prosecutor, attorney in private practice, Senior Counsel for Legal Projects for the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence, and Deputy Disciplinary Administrator, according to the release. He currently works in the Douglas County Public Defender’s Office.
“I am pleased to welcome Gary West to the Douglas County District Court,” Simpson said in the release. “He is an experienced, highly respected member of the legal community who will be an outstanding judge.”
As judge pro tem, Glove presided over some misdemeanors, small claims cases, traffic infractions, probation violations, some first appearances in criminal cases, and protection from abuse and stalking petitions, according to the court’s website.
