Organizers taking donations for 5th annual children’s shoe drive; distribution event is Saturday

Organizers of an annual Lawrence shoe drive are collecting gently used or new children’s shoe donations, and money raised during the event will be given to Just Food, the Douglas County food bank.

Betty Norwood’s smile radiated Friday at the school where she taught for 24 years. She watched as staff, middle schoolers and parents assembled for a schoolwide celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — an annual event Norwood is credited with starting more than three decades ago.
