Lawrence’s college campuses will be abuzz with activity again Thursday and Friday as KU and Haskell students make their way into town. Here’s some basic info for those we’re welcoming to town — and for locals who want to avoid the traffic.
KDOT is beginning work on a project to create a diverging diamond interchange at Sixth Street (U.S. Highway 40) and Kansas Highway 10. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

The eastbound lane of East 19th Street will be closed from Haskell Avenue to Maple Lane beginning Tuesday, according to the city.
The City of Lawrence has started a three-phase construction project on East 23rd Street that’s expected to last about 18 months.

Install road barriers, gather feedback, rinse and repeat: the city’s pilot traffic calming system in Old West Lawrence is moving on to a second round this week, and some roads will be closed to through traffic while adjustments are made.
The city of Lawrence will begin a complete reconstruction of East 19th Street on Monday, and the work is expected to conclude in August.

A public meeting to discuss the traffic project that has placed temporary barriers throughout Old West Lawrence streets — and for city staff to gather feedback for permanent installations — has been moved online.
The right lane of southbound Massachusetts Street will be closed between 21st and 22nd streets starting Wednesday, Oct. 27, according to the city.
