Fire reported at Lawrence church; streets blocked near Kasold and Bob Billings

A fire was reported at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, around 5:15 p.m. Friday.

“Multiple units are at the church with a structure fire,” Tom Fagan, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical division chief of administration, said via email at 5:55 p.m. Friday. “Firefighters are working to stop the extension of the fire into the attic.”

Kasold Drive was to be closed to traffic from 13th to 14th Street for fire apparatus, reports over the scanner indicated around 5:15 p.m.

Fagan said firefighters have requested mutual aid from Consolidated Fire District No. 1 to cover the City of Lawrence.
