A series of three therapeutic choir events intended to help stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease starts up again Thursday.
Harmonic Connections owner Emily Bachert is a board-certified music therapist. The choir will use techniques meant to strengthen muscles used in speaking and respiration, as well as address other vocal skills affected by a stroke or Parkinson’s disease.
Bachert first debuted the Connections Choir in June.
“It was a successful three weeks full of community, support, connection, accessibility, and well-being,” Bachert said via email of the June events.
Although the choir is geared toward people who have experienced a stroke or Parkinson’s disease, all seniors are welcome. Care partners may come, too. Participants do not need to have any prior singing or music-reading experience.
The choir will meet from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 2, 9 and 16, at the Senior Resource Center for Douglas County, 745 Vermont St.
No registration is required, and people may choose to attend any one, two or all three sessions. Donations are appreciated but are not required.
