Four people have been displaced after a fire at a home near Eighth and Illinois streets in Lawrence.

The fire was reported at 3:35 a.m. Thursday while crews were still working at a fire that destroyed Cielito Lindo, a Mexican and Latin American restaurant in downtown Lawrence, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

“In addition to LDCFM personnel and equipment, an engine, quint (fire apparatus with an aerial ladder), and battalion chief from Overland Park Fire Department (OPFD) also responded to the scene as part of a mutual aid request that had been made to provide additional coverage in Lawrence,” according to the release. “The OPFD resources had been staged at LDCFM’s Station 5 and arrived on the scene shortly after the first unit.”

One firefighter was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries, but there were no other injuries reported, according to the release.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but four people were displaced from the building. An LDCFM investigator determined the cause of this fire to be electrical in nature, according to the release.
