When parking is free, a trash day reminder and more for Memorial Day in Lawrence

Here are closures, service changes and other tidbits to know for Memorial Day in Lawrence.

• Parking: Parking at meters and in lots and garages will be free on Monday, May 26, according to a news release from the city.

• Solid waste: There will be no changes to trash pickup schedules this year, so pickup will not be delayed a day.

The city changed its solid waste collection schedule this year based on employee feedback, according to an announcement earlier this year. Trash pickup days are now delayed only for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

• Buses and transit: There will be no Lawrence Transit System T or T Lift service on Monday, and the Central Station will be closed.

• Cemeteries: Oak Hill, Maple Grove and Memorial Park cemeteries will be open from dawn to dusk during the holiday weekend. The City of Lawrence in March launched a website that shows burial sites of more than 64,000 people in the local cemeteries; read more about that at this link.

• Outdoor Aquatic Center: The pool, 727 Kentucky St., opens for the season Monday, with hours of 1 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

• Prairie Park Nature Center and the indoor aquatic center will be closed.

• Rec centers: The Community Building, East Lawrence and Holcom Park recreation centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There are no recreational classes, unified recreation, lifelong recreation, youth sports or gymnastics classes on the holiday, according to the city, and there are no adult sports leagues from Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26.

• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday, May 25 and 26, for the holiday. However, the online library is open 24/7.

• The Lawrence school board’s regular fourth-Monday meeting will be moved to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 at district offices, 110 McDonald Drive.

• City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices will be closed Monday for the holiday.

• Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health’s clinic and office will be closed Monday.

• Douglas County District Court will be closed Monday.

• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Monday.
