A University of Kansas choir made up of students, staff and faculty will bring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Vienna to Lawrence with a free concert.

The Bales Choral Society includes folks from various departments and disciplines across campus. Their upcoming concert is a celebration of Mozart, including his “Requiem” and “Ave Verum Corpus.” Both pieces were composed in Vienna in 1791, the year Mozart died.

The spring concert will be directed by Wolfgang Reisinger, a visiting professor of organ and church music at KU. Reisinger was born in Vienna, Austria and accompanied choir members on a trip to the country in February, according to a news release.

The group went to “the Rejoice Music Festival in Horn, Austria, toured Vienna and attended Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’ at the Volksoper Wien,” per the release. BCS members also performed Mozart with a festival choir.

Their Lawrence ode to the classical composer starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 Bob Billings Parkway. It’s free to attend, and no tickets are required.

“The Bales Chorale represents the University of Kansas at its best: a collaborative artistic endeavor that brings together students, faculty and staff in shared musical purpose,” Reisinger said in the release.
