The Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners will soon host their annual plant sale, offering more than 10,000 plants.
The sale is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 30 in the open pavilion at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. It will run through 3 p.m. or while supplies last.
Plants are all “locally grown, with no harmful neonicotinoids,” Kevin Nelson, a spokesperson for the group, said via email Thursday. “Our plants are all native to Kansas and are true natives, not cultivars.”
The sale helps fund the gardeners and garden-related grants for Douglas County, Nelson said. The Extension Master Gardeners are volunteers who are trained in all aspects of horticulture, and their mission is to provide research-based gardening information to help local residents.

Nelson said the community is also invited to a free native plants talk with Sharon Ashworth, Douglas County horticulture and natural resources agent, to understand why native plants matter. That’s set for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28 in the Dreher Building of the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.
