A summer solstice tour of the KU native plant garden will end just before dark, but visitors can linger and enjoy the sunset.
Kelly Kindscher, a senior scientist with the Kansas Biological Survey and KU environmental studies professor, will lead the semiannual tour of the university’s Native Medicinal Plant Garden. The event is free and open to all.
Kindscher “will give an overview of the research plantings, highlight important species and lead the group on an exploration of the garden,” according to a KU news release. The site, established in 2010, includes research plantings, a native plant demonstration garden and the KU Community Garden.
The tour starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 21. Sunset is projected to be a little before 9 p.m.
The garden is east of the Lawrence Municipal Airport school and directly north of Prairie Moon Waldorf School. Its pathways are ADA-compliant. Here is the garden’s location on a map. For more directions to get there, see this page.
The event may be canceled in inclement weather. Follow this page to stay updated.
For those who cannot attend Sunday, the land is open to the public all year from dawn to dusk, and tours are hosted semiannually.
