The Walgreens pharmacy at Sixth Street and Kasold Drive will no longer be open 24 hours beginning July 16, raising questions among some Lawrence residents about how LMH Health’s emergency room will handle overnight prescription needs.
The Walgreens itself will remain open 24 hours a day. The pharmacy will still have extended daily hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., but the change means Lawrence will lose its only 24-hour pharmacy service.
A spokesperson for LMH Health did not respond Wednesday to whether the hospital has a specific plan to help emergency room patients bridge the gap after hours.
However, in an email a Lawrence resident shared with this publication, LMH spokesperson Autumn Bishop said the hospital understands concerns about the change and wants to reassure the community that emergent needs will be addressed and patient care will remain the priority.
