Expecting parents and families with young children will be able to pick up baby essentials, meet with local service providers and enter raffles during a free community baby shower in Lawrence.
The “It Takes a Village” baby shower is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at Panda Pediatrics, 1803 W. Sixth St. The event is hosted by Heartland Community Health Center’s pediatric clinic.
More than 15 organizations are expected to participate, offering information about pregnancy, nutrition, child development, parenting, healthcare, safety and other family resources.
Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health programs, including Healthy Families Douglas County, Mi Apoyo Prenatal and WIC Nutrition, will attend.

“Families need support before and after a baby is born, whether that means finding health care, food assistance, insurance, mental health services or other resources,” Heartland Community Health Center CEO Julie Branstrom said in a news release. “We are excited to bring so many community partners together in one place and make it easier for parents to connect with the help they need.”
The afternoon will include refreshments, treats, giveaways, raffles and prizes. Attendees can enter to win a Graco Travel System, which includes a stroller, and tour Panda Pediatrics to learn about its providers and services.
