Kansans have just less than a month to get registered to vote if they want to cast a ballot in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election.
It’s a key election, with four of five Douglas County Commission seats on the ballot along with the Douglas County district attorney, every seat in the Kansas Legislature, two big ballot questions affecting voters in the city of Lawrence (form of government; homelessness and housing sales tax increase) and much more.
The deadline to register to vote is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Early voting then begins Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Douglas County folks can get registered, double check and update their registration online at KSVotes.org. They can also walk into the clerk’s office at the historic courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St., to fill out a paper form to register.
KSVotes.org also allows registered voters to request an advance ballot to be mailed to them.

People who do not currently have a permanent mailing address may use one of the following:
• Lawrence Community Shelter, 3655 E. 25th St., Lawrence, KS 66046
• Homeless Resource Center, 944 Kentucky St., Lawrence, KS 66044
Voters who have been convicted of a felony are eligible to register to vote if they have completed their sentence and any post-release supervision. That includes voters who have to register as offenders, as long as their sentences are complete.

The Kansas secretary of state’s office announced Tuesday that the state has crossed a milestone: 2 million Kansans are now on the voter rolls. More than 83,000 voters have joined the rolls since January, according to the announcement.
The state also offers an online voter registration application at kdor.ks.gov/Apps/VoterReg.
