Brent Burns, Liberty Memorial Central Middle School’s assistant principal and athletic director, is resigning effective June 30, the district announced Wednesday.

Burns has worked at LMCMS for six years, according to the district’s news release, and this was his first year as assistant principal. He previously taught social studies and completed an administrative internship in the 2020-21 school year, according to the release.

“I have had the honor and privilege of teaching some of the district’s brightest minds,” Burns said in the release. “My relationships with the community will never be forgotten, and I look forward to seeing students and families throughout Lawrence.”

“The staff treated me like family from my first day walking into the building, and I am lucky to call many colleagues my friends. I wish the staff and students the best of luck, and remember, ‘Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang.’”

LMCMS Principal Anne Hawks said in the release that Burns’ “service-oriented approach to leadership will be missed by his colleagues at LMCMS. We all wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The district will evaluate the assistant principal/athletic director position along with other vacancies as part of its budget planning process, according to the release.
