Amanda Green, current principal of Broken Arrow Elementary, will transition into the position of principal at Sunflower Elementary School, according to a Saturday announcement from the Lawrence school district.
The Lawrence school board voted on March 27 to close Broken Arrow and Pinckney elementary schools as part of a package of budget cuts. Green was previously set to take a new administrative role as coordinator of systems of support in which she would help families transitioning out of those two schools, the district announced last month.
Melissa Blevins, principal of Sunflower Elementary School, has accepted a position with another district, according to a Tuesday announcement.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Lawrence community as principal at Sunflower Elementary School,” Green said in the district’s release. “I have greatly admired the work of Sunflower teachers and students, and I look forward to working together to continue the focus on high level academic achievement and social emotional learning.”
Green’s new position will be effective July 1, pending school board approval. The district will reevaluate the new administrative position, according to the release.
Current Pinckney Elementary Principal Jennifer Schmitt will take over as principal at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School after Anne Hawks, who will resign effective June 30 to take an administrative position in a suburban Kansas City, Missouri, school district.
