Summerfest 2025 came complete with food, family fun, Uncle Sam on stilts and — drumroll, please — a working drone show.
The city opted to go with a drone show rather than fireworks last year. Drones have become a popular alternative to fireworks for many municipalities as explosions can be triggering for war veterans, pets and others.
But because of technical difficulties, the drones never took off. The company gave the city a $30,000 credit and promised to make this year’s show bigger and better than last year’s was supposed to be.
The crowd appeared to be sufficiently wowed with the show, which followed musical performances by several local artists and the Lawrence City Band.
Eudora and Baldwin City have fireworks shows coming up Friday and Saturday, respectively. Find info on fireworks in Douglas County in this article.
