Post updated at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11:
There were no injuries, but a lane of Kansas Highway 10 was temporarily closed Saturday evening following a five-vehicle crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The westbound lane of K-10 at West 27th Street was closed as of 8 p.m. Saturday after the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
The lane reopened just before 9 p.m., though “One vehicle is partially blocking the lane, as deputies await on a tow removal,” according to DGSO.
“The cause of the crash does appear to be icy conditions,” DGSO wrote in a social media post. “Please drive cautiously for those winter conditions this evening.”
The National Weather Service in Topeka forecast some winter precipitation for Saturday afternoon and evening.
“Significant impacts are not expected, but a few slick spots could occur, mainly on untreated roads and elevated surfaces across eastern Kansas,” according to a weather advisory.
There is a chance of freezing rain between 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, according to NWS. The low temperature in the forecast Saturday night into Sunday is 26°, and Sunday could see a high of 32°.
Overnight lows and extremely cold wind chills below 0° and in the single digits are in the forecast for Sunday night into Monday morning. Monday is expected to be very cold, with a high of 22° and wind chills between -3° and 7°, as of Saturday night’s forecast.
Over the next several days, the probability for widespread hazardous weather is low, according to NWS.
