Military aircraft will fly over the KU campus and Lawrence three times ahead of the sold-out football season opener at the renovated stadium.
The Jayhawks look to face Fresno State, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. A team of F-35 fighters and a C-147, also known as a Dash 8, will fly over the stadium around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, according to a KU news release Friday morning.
“The C-147 will be carrying members of the U.S. Army Parachute Team, also known as the Golden Knights, who will parachute into the stadium,” according to the release.
The F-35 pilots will have practice runs at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and the C-147 will fly over at 8 p.m. Friday, according to the release.
“The F-35s are conducted by the 56th Fighter Wing and 62nd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona,” according to the release. “The Golden Knights are based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.”
Capacity for David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is set at 41,525 for the 2025 season, according to a Kansas Athletics news release this week. All tickets for the season opener were sold by Wednesday.
The game will be broadcast on Fox.
KU will have seven home games this season, including Saturday’s game. Lawrence Transit will offer bus service from a downtown parking garage to the game for home games. Read more about that at this link.
